The Last Request
Written 2009
Compilation CD #24, May 2011, Vino Loco
Late last the night I had this crazy dream and in this dream I dreamt that I had died
But before I did, doctors and nurses gathered round said, sorry sir there's nothing to do, we can't help you out
But in your last minutes we feel obligated to fulfill any needs that you think you might need to have met
Well, I thought about this for a moment and then the moment passed
Took a deep breath, let it out and then this is what I said:
Well, you can put some whiskey in that empty cup of ice
Turn up the morphine drop by 10 times
Cut up a line while I take a toke
Put some Carlin and some Pryor on the TV sets till I go
Oh and, nurse, if you could fulfill this last request
I'd be eternally grateful for it
`Cause I want to reach my heaven before I get my hell
So I can try to trick the god and devil into not knowing where I am
Oh yeah
Then I closed my eyes and I died
But that's when I opened them up in my second dream of life I sat up
in bed and thought about this premonition I had and what was to come
Because I've been going too fast, so hard, going too far, for so long
And if I didn't change my ways, brake from this wicked craze, I'd find myself one day
In the same scene, saying the same thing, sounding like a broken record, hearing these words once again:
You can put some whiskey in that empty cup of ice
Turn up the morphine drop by 10 times
Cut up a big fat line while I take a toke
Put some Carlin and some Pryor on the TV sets till I go
Oh and, nurse, if you could fulfill this last request
I'd be eternally grateful for it
`Cause I want to reach my heaven before I get my hell
So I can try to trick the god and devil into not knowing where I am
Oh yeah
Now this is when I woke up into reality, as far as I see it and/or can believe it
And I wondered to myself why would I have had this dream in the first place, I mean
I corrected the error of my ways, I repented for all those sins that I did back in the day
And now I was living a clean, sober, boring, so rural life going day by day into a meaningless existence
And after taking some time.… this is to represent the time I took
And thinking about this whole thing, I came to the decision If I still found myself in the same situation
The words that would perpetuate out of my mouth would be of this disposition:
You can put some whiskey in that empty cup of ice
Turn up the morphine drop by 10 times
Cut up a big fat line while I take a toke
Put some Carlin and some Pryor on the TV sets till I go
Oh and, nurse, if you could fulfill this last request
I'd be eternally grateful for it
`Cause I want to reach my heaven before I get my hell
So I can try to trick the god and devil into not knowing where the fuck I am
Oh yeah
Oh
yeah
